Quebec City

The only walled city north of Mexico — cobblestones, crêperies, and a skyline lifted from a fairy tale.

Quebec City is the only walled city north of Mexico, and it does not coast on the gimmick.

Old Québec's stone streets connect to a river walk, a funicular, and neighborhoods built for aimless wandering — most of it walkable in wool socks and a good coat.

One conversation. Every leg priced.

Neighborhoods worth booking

Vieux-Québec for the ramparts, the Château Frontenac, and streets too narrow for cars. Petit Champlain for crêperies and stone stairways down to the river. Saint-Roch when you want espresso bars and a younger, less touristed pace.

A long weekend in Quebec City

Three days inside the walls and out

  • Vieux-Québec2 nights | Ramparts walk, the Château Frontenac, dinner in Petit Champlain
  • Saint-Roch1 night | Coffee crawl, boutiques, a slower afternoon off the tourist track
  • Montmorency Fallsday trip | A waterfall taller than Niagara, twenty minutes from downtown

When to go

Late September through October brings fall color across the Plains of Abraham without winter cold. Deep winter (January–February) is its own draw for Winter Carnival and skating on the Terrasse, if you pack for it.
